Description
Summary:
Abstract
The statics Freedericbz transistionphenomena under externalfields in the nematic liquid crystal has been investigated using expanded free elastic energy density involving saddle-splay constant k24. Free elastic energy density reformulated using continuum theory in order to make k24constant appeared. Then,Freedericbz transition in planar, homeotropic and homogen system are derived from that free elastic energy densities using Euler-Lagrange variational principles. Results of the investigation showed that critical field in the planar and homeotropic systems are affected by k24 constant instead of k,11 (splay constant), k22(twist constant) and k33(bend constant) , while in the homogen system is unaffected. The results also showed that the expandedfree elastic energy did not violate experimental facts: Freedericbz transistion only occuredwhen applied fields is higher than criticalfields and if the applied fields is continously raised then the maximum reorientation angle attained value close to 1(/2
