The purposes of this research are to find out the characteristics of peat land and to establish the actual suitability of the land which then be upgraded to the potentially suitable land to support the development of corn plants on the research location by utilization of ameliorant materials of coastal sediment and salted fish waste.
A series of research were conducted in the laboratory, greenhouse and in the field. The field research was conducted in peat land of the Rasau Jaya III area Kubu Raya Regency to investigate the characteristics of the land and to evaluate the actual land suitability class, in order to be upgraded to the potentially suitable land for the development of corn on research site.
The pot experiment in greenhouse was conducted in the Faculty of Agriculture, Tanjungpura University Pontianak 1) to establish the doses of coastal sediment and the salted fish waste for each SPT (soil mapping unit) based on the limiting factors of pH, DHL, ESP , and 2 ) to knows the influence of coastal sediment and salted fish waste ameliorant treatment on the availability of macro-nutrients and the yield of corn on each SPT. The research results show that there are three soil mapping units (SPT) in the research site which can be upgraded for its actual land suitability to be the potentially better land suitability for corn development, that are the level of hemic maturity (SPT 1) and sapric maturity (SPT 3 and SPT 4 ).
