Description
Summary:<p>Attempts have been made to evaluate the activation of humic acids (HA) with epichlorohydrin (ECH) in order to obtain a HA derivate that can be reacted chemically with chitosan. Activation of HA with ECH was performed by two method. First, HA activation was conducted by a mild phase-transfer catalytic reaction using tetrabutylammonium hydroxide as the phase-transfer catalyst and tetrahydrofuran as the solvent. Second, HA was activated with ECH/Ag2O in dimethylformamide. On the both methods, ECH was used in excess in order to prevent cross-linking reaction between HA itself. The occurrence of the activation reaction was assessed by FTIR spectroscopy. An ether and ester linkages were identified on both product, but the first method was more convenient to prepare an activated-HA. The activated-HA was reacted with phthaloylchitosan in DMF solvent at 90&#61616
