Summary: |
Background. The appearance of gingival tissues surrounding the teeth plays a significant role in the aesthetics of the anterior maxillary region of the mouth. Important landmark in this region is gingival zenith (GZ).The GZ is defined asthe most apical point of the marginal gingival scallop. The objectives of this study were to quantify the gingival arc (GA), the positions (GZP) and levels (GZL) in the maxillary anterior teeth of dental and medical students in the Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Methods. A total of 108 study models (54 males and 54 females), the mean age were 23 years old with healthy gingiva, and absence of crowding, diastema and anterior restoration were evaluated. In the study models, the angle of GA, the GZP in the mesio-distal directions for maxillary anterior teeth, the GZLin apico-coronal directions for lateral incisors (LI) were measured by digital microscope, Hirox KH-7700 version 2.0 (Hirox, Japan). The data were analyzed using SPSS v.14.0.1
Results. This present study demonstrated that 100 % of central incisor (CI) has GZPdistally displaced from midline of the crown. The mean displacement for GZPof CI = 0.91 to 1.00 mm for left and right Cis respectively, were significant different (p< |
