Description
Summary:North square (Alun-alun) of Yogyakarta is a wide open space which located in the north of Yogyakarta Palace. The exsisting layout of the square is in fact shapes the activities concentration in some areas that give impact to the raise of the crowd and quiet spaces. Space syntax method is used to analyze the layout of the square in term of space configuration to know its relates with the existing patterns of activities. The focused activities to observe are movements and static activities. The results of field observation are corelated with the results of syntaxis analysis that uses software. The value of movements with the integration value and the pattern of static activities with the visibility graph analysis. The findings shows good correlation between values of integration and the values of motor-vehicles movement. It suggest that the movement is influenced by the space configuration. But not all existing movement are fully influenced by the space configuration, especially for pedestrian and non-motor vehicles since the factor of tourism attractors. While the overlay of static activities and the visibility graph analysis shows a good correlation. It suggest that people or visitors in north square are tend to choose the more exposed spaces than the secluded ones.
