Summary: | Acrylic resin is the most commonly material for denture base.
Disadvantage acrylic resin is easily fractured. Repairment to the new one is
needed. The aim of the research was to finding out the effect of added glass
fibers and ethyl acetate as surface treatment onto transversal strength as a result
of denture repairs.
The experiment involved fourty plates of heat cured acrylic with dimension
65x10x2,5mm. All plates were soaked in distilled water for two days at 37
o
C
temperature. Every subject was divided into four groups, each group containts of
10 subjects. Group I without glass fiber and ethyl acetate, group II with ethyl
acetate added, group III with glass fiber added, and group IV with glass fibers
and ethyl acetate added. All of the subjects were prepared to create a 3mm gap
and made cavity as dovetail like T with 2mm depth over the failure. All
samples were tested for transverse strength with Universal Testing Machine. The
data obtained were analyzed with one way anova.
The result showed there were significant difference between group control
with group added (p < 0.05), but group with ethyl acetate added, compared
group with glass fiber added showed there were no sigmificant difference (p >
0.05). The conclusion of this research is an addition of fiber and ethyl acetate as
surface treatment were increase the transverse strength of denture repairs. |
