Description
Summary:Members contribution in a group is an important key in achieving the common goals. The tendency of organization members to reduce its contributions (social loafing) is a threat that often accompanies along with the increasing number of team members. One way to reduce social loafing tendency is by making the input of individuals easily identified and evaluated. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of team goalsetting in intervening the social loafing of team member. The study involved 41 participants who were divided into control group (21 persons) and the experimental group (20 people). Subjects in the experimental group were given the treatment in the form of team goal-setting training. The design study is a posttest-only design using proxy pretests, with the scale of cooperation was used in proxy pretest and social loafing scale on the post-test. The hypothesis was tested by using analysis of covariance (ANCOV) technique by placing the cooperation skill as a covariant. The study produced evidence that goal-setting can minimalize social loafing of the team members (F = 5.401, p <0.05). The value of social loafing in the group treated with team goal-setting training was lower than the untreated group.
