Description
Summary:Background: The weakness of the current service system appears when the registration process manually performed. For example, the patient must come in person or ask for help from others to register directly to the GMC. This is not efficient because it requires high transportation costs for patients who are far away and certainly difficult for patients who are sick. Registration other way is through the telephone. It also has a weakness, especially if the phone line is busy or disconnected. The use of phone services also require operators and can only be done during working hours. Need an alternative means that could replace the existing way of registration. In general, this research aims to design a prototype system of SMS-based patient care information at Gadjah Mada University Medical Center (GMC) in Yogyakarta. The specific objectives are (1) Design a prototype system of SMS-based patient registration information, (2) Design a prototype information system to determine the schedule of SMSbased physician practices, (3) Design a prototype information system receiving an input to the GMC advice Yogyakarta-based SMS. Methods: This was a descriptive study with qualitative approach in the form of action research. The selection method is based on the consideration that in the development of this prototype is expected the collaboration between researchers with the GMC so that the focus is more directed to the needs of use. This research was conducted by looking at administrative data document the GMC in 2009. Result: The system consist of patient registration service via SMS in case the patient can conduct the enrollment registration via SMS, to get the time and day schedule of doctors practice that want by the patient, the patient can choose the doctor that appropriate with the diseases, also obtain medical checkup registration number from the doctor that have been appointment. Conclusion: With the design of patient care information system prototype of this SMS-based patient does not need to come directly to the GMC, because these services can serve the patient registration register via SMS, then immediately responded automatically by sending a reply SMS in the form of serial numbers of patients and the time when the patient will served by physicians. The use of SMS for the registration of patients provide many benefits and facilities, among others, does not require special operators, can be done 24 hours a day, low cost, and patients can do it anytime and anywhere.
