Summary:Ammonia plant is a main part of fertilizer industry. Primary reformer is a unit operation where catalytic reaction between steam and methane take place, or called steam methane reforming. The raw material is natural gas with main content of methane (CH4) and steam (H2O). On this research, a model of primary reformer unit is built to calculate temperature, pressure and composition profiles for steady state operation according to operating condition on Ammonia 3 plant in PT Pupuk Sriwidjaya Palembang. The assumptions used are plug flow model for the process gas side and plug flow model for gas process side on steady state conditions. To solve the differential ordiner equation defined in this research, Runge Kutta method is used with Scilab program in order to get the conversion and temperature profiles on primary reformer. Variabel that affected the reaction on primary reformer are temperature, pressure, and composition. Simulation result if compare with operational plant data show average error 3.948 %. If this model use to vary operating conditions show average error 7.01 %.
