Description
Summary:Comparative advantage in services is a relatively new concept. The concept of comparative advantage in economics provide a theoretical foundation for countries to specialize in production and enter into international trade in order to maximize their economic welfare. This study is aimed to measure the comparative advantage in ASEAN countries tourism sector, especially Indonesia, create The Tourism Mapping, and The Flying Geese Mapping. The observation years of this study is 2001 2010. The analysis tools used in this study are Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage (RSCA) Index as the indicator of comparative advantage, Trade Ratio (TRR) Index as the indicator whether a country has specialization in export (net-exporter) or in import (net-importer). Both of that analysis tools then used to construct Tourism Mapping and based on that Tourism Mapping, The Flying Geese Mapping created. The result obtained that in this international tourism sector, Indonesia has relatively comparative disadvantage compared to others, except Singapore and Brunei Darussalam and also called the net-importer country in international tourism. This is reflected in the entering of Indonesia tourism sector to the group D in the past 5 research years. Based on the Tourism Mapping and Flying Geese Mapping, could be seen that there is change/shift in the leader of the geese flying in the tourism sector, Laos in 2001 replaced by Cambodia in 2010 and then called the most comparative advantage country and net-exporter country in tourism sector. Based on The Tourism Mapping, also shows positive relationship between comparative advantage and trade balance, the higher the comparative advantage of the country international tourism sector, the higher the possibility of that country becomes the net-exporter.
