Hakimi, SpOG(K), PhD ETD Background: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a health problem commonly encountered by millions of age productive women prior to menstruation. Etiologically, PMS that can disrupt quality of life of teenagers either physiologically or educationally is still unknown. One factor suspected as a trigger for the incidence of PMS is physical activity. This is the reason why the researcher wants to further study whether low physical activity brings risk for the incidence of PMS. Objective: To identify association between physical activity and the incidence of PMS. Method: The study was observational with case control design. Subject of the study were female students of grade X and XI at SMAN 1 and SMKN 3 Purworejo as many as 148 students. The subject was identified in two phases, screening and observation of cases and control. Primary data were obtained through questionnaire and recall checklist 7x24 hours. Data analysis used univariate with frequency distribution, bivariate with chi square and multivariate with logistic regression model. Result: The result of bivariate analysis showed there was significant association either statistically or practically between physical activity and PMS. Teenagers with low physical activity had risk 4,59 times greater for having PMS than those with high physical activity (CI 1.97-10.70) after adjusted stress. Conclusion: Low physical activity increased risk for the incidence of PMS. [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 2012 Thesis NonPeerReviewed , Yane Tambing and , Prof. dr. H. M.
