ETD Background: The coverage of delivery assistance by skilled attendant in Indonesia continues to increase, but neonatal mortality almost does not experience a decline. The presence of skilled attendant during delivery is an effort to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. Care provided by skilled attendant during delivery reduce 20-30% of neonatal deaths. Objective: To analyze contribution of delivery assistance by skilled attendant to reduce risk of neonatal mortality in Indonesia. Method: This was an observasional study that used a cohort retrospective study design. The study used data IDHS 2002-2003 and 2007. The samples were all of live-born infants of women aged 15-49 years who have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis used a survival analysis, which is the effect of delivery assistance by skilled attendant on neonatal mortality was obtained using Cox proportional hazards model. Result: In the 2002-2003 IDHS, the risk of neonatal deaths was significantly lower for delivery attended by skilled attendant compared to unskilled (HR = 0.6 [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 2012 Thesis NonPeerReviewed , Alminar Lai Dakhi and , Prof. dr.
