Summary: | Hot Rolled Sheet (HRS) is a gap gradation mixture. The most occuring
problem is how to get a good and economical pavement. Due to this problem, a
research for palm shell ashes is done. The objective of this research are to fine out
the Marshall characteristic and Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) of HRS-Base
mixture of wich filler is palm oil shell ashes.
The research is done by creating variations of filler, i.e. 100% stone dust,
75% stone dust + 25% palm shell ashes, 50% stone dust + 50% palm shell ashes,
25% stone dust + 75% palm shell ashes, and 100% palm shell ash, then Marshall
and ITS testing.
The Optimum Bitumen Content (OBC) for each variation are 6.4%,
6.45%, 6.5%, 6.6% and 6.7%. The results show the HRS-Base mixture with palm
shell ashes meets all general specification require by Departement of public works
by the year 2010. HRS-Base mixture of palm shell ashes may increase optimum
bitumen content. The stability value is decreasing with the addition of palm shell
ashes filler. The highest stability value can be found on stone dust filler which is
100% (1701 kg /0.5 hour immersion, 1622 kg /24 hours immersion ) and the
lowest stability value can be found on 75% (1487 kg /0.5 hour immersion,1367 kg
/ 24 hours immersion). The flow is gradually increasing by the addition of palm
shell ashes filler. The highest flow value which can be found are (3.8 mm/ 0.5
hours immersion, 4.6 mm/ 24 hours immersion), while the lowest value can be
found on 100% palm shell ashes (3.6 mm/ 0.5 hours immersion, 3.4 mm/ 24 hours
immersion). It means the increasing quqntity of palm shell ashes may increase the
flow value, as well as the asphalt content. HRS-Base mixture with palm shell
ashes filler has IRS> 90%, it means that this mixture is resistant to water and
temperature changes. The qualified TSR (> 80%) can be found on variation of
25% filler palm shell ashes (82%). Which also means that it meets the minimum
indirect tensile strength. |
