Today, many office buildings use a variety of electronic devices that generate non-linear current, such as computers, printers, scanners, air conditioner, energy saving lamps and other equipment. High content of harmonics in non-linear loads can cause reduce power quality of system such lower power factor, distorted voltage waveform, increasing power loss, excessive heating in transformers and inefficiency in electrical energy usage. This research objectives are investigating the value of THDv and THDi produced non-linear loads in office building and evaluating measurement result using standard IEEE standard 519-1992, and reducing harmonics value by installing passive harmonic filters on the bus or panel that has exceessive THDi or THDv. Finally comparison analysis of THDv, THDi, and power losses before and after the installation of passive harmonic filters was done. In this study, case study was done using Engineering Faculty building of UMP (FT -UMP) data. Based on measurement and simulation results using ETAP, it was kwon that several bus on FT-UMP building having THDi in the range of 18.64% - 29.45% and power factor values range from 0.62 - 0.87. Single-tuned filter then was designed to reduce harmonics value. Installation of filter designed improving THDi value to below 15% and a power factor above 0.9.
