Summary: | Boiler performance is determined by its abilities in absorbing heat produced by fuel combustion process for generating the steam. The more heat absorbed the better its performance. This research was focused in analyzing performance of boiler possessed by Center of Research and Development of Electricity Technology, New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (PPPTKEBTKE) ESDM, which use biomass as its fuel. The fuel used was the mixing of coconut shell and its charcoal, which was varied into four kinds: A (100% coconut shell charcoal), B (70% coconut shell charcoal and 30% coconut shell), C (30% coconut shell charcoal and 70% coconut shell) and D (100% coconut shell). The air supplied to the furnace was also classified into three kinds: 302.36 kg/h, 1172.45 kg/h and 1425.434 kg/h.
The objective of the analysis was to identify the heat flow produced by combustion process to the boiler, economizer, ashes and flue gas. The result shows that the effectiveness of boiler in absorbing heat was too low. It might because of the furnace volume, the kind of bed used on the experiment, the particle size, the feeding method, the condition of feed water, etc. |
