Description
Summary:Individual's capability in facing problems is determined by the mastery on several aspects of problem identification and problem solving, goal setting, strategic planning, and resource seeking. Those aspects together built the capability to do coping proactively. The form of this research is training program called SINERGI II that held for students at grade of VIII at junior high school as participants. The purpose of this study is to see whether training "SINERGI II" could increase proactive coping capability to participants. SINERGI II applied the concept of experiential learning as well as methods of games, discussion, reflection, and role-playing to enhance proactive coping skills of participants. Measurement of proactive coping capabilities of students used proactive coping scale called PCI (Proactive Coping Inventory) with 55 number of items with an alpha reliability of 0.871. Characteristics of participants in both experimental group and the control group were mid adolescent students at a junior high school, aged 14 s / d 16 years, grade of VIII, and selected at random by the teacher. Participants for the experimental group and control group derived from a different schools. The number of participants is 15 students in the experimental group and 15 students in the control group as well. A quasi-experimental method with the untreated control group design with dependent pretest and posttest samples was used in this research. The program consists of six training sessions and held in two days of training and takes more less than 11 hours of lessons. Analysis of quantitative data using a parametric t test and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Analysis of qualitative data derived from observations, interviews, and analysis worksheets. The results of quantitative analysis of gained scores between experimental and control groups showed significant differences (t = 2.517, p = 0.01 (p 0.05)) while for ANOVA obtained F = 6.130, p = 0021 (p <0.05). The results suggest that SINERGI II training program could increase participants capability of proactivencoping.
