Summary:Food independent village program is government�s policy that aims to achieve food security for people. This program was created in order to alleviate poverty. Poverty is the lifeline for food insecurity resulting in instability of food security conditions. Food independent village program began in 2006 and Selopamioro village was one of the chosen village to obtain the program for more than 50% of the population was categorized as poor. Based on this background, this study aimed to answer the problems of the extent of the effectiveness of food independent village program in the Village Selopamioro Imogiri Bantul district and what are the factors that influence the effectiveness by using qualitative research methods. Based on analysis of data from observations, interviews and documents obtained during the study showed that food independent village program implemented in the Village Selopamioro has not been effective. The condition is caused by the empowerment of people do not run as expected. The role of each public institution of Village Food Team (TPD) and Village Financial Institutions (LKD) whose responsible for the success of the program is not optimal. Meanwhile there were no improvement in productive enterprises run by the groups and it resulted in the number of beneficiaries which cannot be increased until the final stages of program implementation. It is influenced by several factors: the characteristics of the community, government commitment and management of Human Resources (HR).
