Summary: | Outsourcing is the strategic use of outside resources to perform activities that
are usually handled by internal staff and resources. Outsourcing has become a
common practice over the years and part of company�s strategy to gain a competitive
advantage. By implementing outsourcing, companies can gain in markets that would
otherwise be uneconomical. Outsourcing scope has become expanded and involving
more business functions and requires more complex arrangement. It can be
implemented not only to non-core function but also to core-function/critical function.
The main purpose of the study is to analyze the application of outsourcing
strategy of the critical function in a service division. The writer analyzes the
implementation of the outsourcing strategy and map the characteristic using the
outsourcing model developed by Mohr et al. to define the reason of the
implementation, the type of the outsourcing strategy and the implementation process
in order to minimize the risk related to outsourcing of the core competency. Data on
this study collected from internal and external documentation related to the
outsourcing implementation within the service division as well as interview with the
management and workshop staffs.
The study finds that the company implementing a strategic outsourcing in
which strategic relationship, close and long term. Company has managed the
relationship properly in such strategic outsourcing arrangement in order to minimize
the risk related to its intellectual property as well as sustainable development with
outsourcing partner in the future. |
