This research study presents findings of a case study that examined parental involvement in children's education at a lower secondary school in Phnom Penh. The purpose of this study was to explore current levels of parental involvement, barriers to parental involvement and perceptions of parents concerning what constitutes parental involvement in education. 100 parents were surveyed at a lower secondary school about parental involvement in education. Data were gathered using parent questionnaires. Additionally, 15 parents and 10 teachersâ focus group discussion and a school director's interview were used to confirm and extend the quantitative findings. The results indicate that about 60% of parents have little involvement in their children's education and about 30% of parents have high involvement in their children's education. As well, this research indicates several barriers that prevented parents from getting involved in education, and positive and negative perceptions of parents. Furthermore, this research also serves as important recommendations to improve parental involvement in their children's education.enRoyal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP)Barriers to parental involvement in educationParental involvement in educationParental Involvement in Children's Education at a Lower Secondary School in Phnom PenhThesis |
