To meet the aim, a sample of 45 Level 5 students within the age range of 15-23 was randomly selected from a population of 173. They were then randomly assigned into three groups based on the pre-test scores. Each consisted of 15 students. It should be noted that the sample held the same linguistic background, but different vocabulary teaching methods were applied during the intervention. The result reveals that there were significant differences among subjects` performances on different methods of teaching vocabulary items. Therefore, it can be claimed that the contextual guessing and glossing strategies are more useful and can play an important role in teaching vocabulary items to Cambodian EFL learners.
