Summary: | Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women living in less developed
regions, with an estimated 570,000 new cases in 2018, about 84% worldwide. Cervical cancer
is a type of cancer with the highest prevalence of sufferers in Indonesia in 2013, which was
0.8% or an estimated 98,692 patients. Cervical cancer disease and treatment provide
significant changes for patients because the impact of chemotherapy modifies the physical, psychological, and social conditions that will affect sufferers' quality of life. Not only that, but
sufferers often experience problems, namely self-efficacy in self-care of signs and symptoms
during chemotherapy and low optimism in treating the disease. For the purpose of the review
family empowerment models was reffered. Therefore, the aim of this study is to find a family
empowerment model (knowledge, attitudes, and skills) that affects the problems of cancer
patients, namely quality of life, self-efficacy in self-care, and optimism. The study uses a mixed- method approach. This exploratory sequential mixed method combines qualitative and
quantitative data collection and analysis in a sequence of phases. The qualitative type used in
this research is narrative, and the type of quantitative used is a quasi-experimental design with
the control group. The study participants in the qualitative and quantitative study are cervical
cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and the family of cervical cancer patients in Pirngadi
and Murni Teguh Hospital in Medan. This research's unique and specific contributions to the
research field are to get the model of family empowerment among cervical cancer patients
undergoing chemotherapy and the effect of the model on quality of life, self-efficacy in self-care, and optimism with cervical cancer. |
