Summary: | Seaweeds are an integral part of marine habitats serving as part of the food chain. Biostimulants are
extracts or products that are derived from naturally occurring substances, aid development, and
growth in plants. Biostimulants are known to be environmental pollutants free and reduce the
utilization of organic fertilizer. Seaweeds extracts are considered as unutilized occurring natural plant
species around our environments. The following study aims to harmonize the studies carried out using
seaweeds extracts. The review documented some communities are using it as plant growth
regulators, food material, medicinal applications, and some few industrial applications. Crop
amendments of selected crops were carried out with the application of seaweeds extracts of a
different type. Various compounds related to plant growth and developments are found in seaweeds
extracts. However, the review finds out full biostimulation of seaweeds extracts is to be explored
despite their potentials. Therefore, there is a need to explore the significant effect of seaweeds
extracts on the growth and development of plants and their mode of action. The seaweed extracts are
renewable products if fully utilized. In this chapter, we discussed the regulatory effects of sea weed
extract on plant growth, development and quality improvement. |
