Imam al-Tabari was one of the famous mufassirin in the Muslim world. The Books written by him has been used as a references by current or former Muslim scholars. Among his famous compositions is Tafsir, I would like to attempt to study the problem of this issue by linking the al-Tabari’s understanding toward the al-Ahruf al-Sabcah that expected to be the basis method of the al-Tabari’s debate on al-Tabari that named Jamic al-Bayan can Ta’wil Ayi al-Qur’an. Among the greatness of this interpretation is its debate towards science of qiraat which was more detailed than other interpretations.However, the approach used by al-Tabari in describing of wajh al-Qira’at was contrary to the discipline of science of qiraat and received the criticism especially by scholars in this field. Taujih al-Qira’at method is based on the strength of lahjah and Arab language and then in the face of tarjih al-Qira’at is considered more preferable between qiraat mutawatir and lower face other qira’at. As the authorscience of qiraat. The approach should be taken by academicians in the face of this problem is also proposed, especially for non-scienc qiraat specialization in order to avoid misunderstanding the position of the al-qiraa’at al-mutawatirah when they studied this high value tafsir. Similarly to those who are specialized in the field of qiraat to not too quickly accuse this Imam with bad allegations as what has been done by the ignorant.
