| Summary: | Objectives: Sleep disorders were frequently reported by opioid-dependent patients during methadone maintenance therapy (MMT). This research has determined if there is an association between sleep and sleep-related factors among patients on MMT.
Design: A cross-sectional study.
Materials and Methods: Present study evaluated the sleep quality of 119 Malay male patients using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).
Results: The mean global PSQI score was 5.6 (SD 2.79). The results show that the age of first illicit drug use, age of first opioid abuse, duration of opioid exposure, duration of opioid addiction, duration in MMT and monthly income were associated with PSQI score.
Conclusions: Current study concluded that sleep disorders should be evaluated among MMT patients. In particularly in those patients with age of first illicit drug use ≤ 20 years; age of first opioid abuse ≤ 20 years; duration of opioid exposure ≥ 10 years; duration of opioid addiction ≥ 10 years; duration in MMT ≥ 5 years; and monthly income ≥ RM 1000. |
