Description
Summary:In this work activated dolomite adsorption was investigated for removal ofacidic gaseous pollutants which in this case is CarbonDioxide. Charring was found to be an effective method for the activation of dolomite based on the literature review and some previous research conducted by chemist. This thermal processing resulted in partial decomposition, yielding a calcite and magnesium oxide structure. Adsorbentswere produced over a range of char temperatures (500, 700 and 900 °C) and char times (1-8 h). The surface properties and the adsorption capability of rawandthermally treated dolomite sorbentswere investigatedusing SEM, XRD and BET. The sorbate individually investigated was C02.Using the TPDRO the activated dolomite was tested to produce result as a potentially cost effective material for acidic gases adsorption. From the results obtained, the results were not like what had been expected. The method used was found not preferable for the project. To continue this research it is recommended to use other options or methods for adsorption experiment.
