Description
Summary:The Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and Linear Stochastic Estimation (LSE) techniques have seen increasing uses in the last two decades and have a lot of applications for the comparison of experimental and numerically simulated data. Mostly studies in slug flow were limited to the integral slug parameters and formation mechanisms and no one has reported the analysis of both liquid and gas phases by ~ ---- POD and LSE techniques which are important in understanding this complex flow phenomenon. In this study the two-dimensional, two-component instantaneous velocity fields of both liquid and gas phases of a slug flow in a pipe were obtained by Particle Image Velocimetry (PlY). POD and LSE were applied to these experimentally obtained velocity fields of both phases separately to identify the coherent flow structures. We focused on POD spatial and temporal eigenmodes of the liquid and gas phases and their respective fluctuating energies.
