Description
Summary:Microalgae has become a promising feedstock for biofuels production due to their fast growing nature and high lipid content. Hence, the effect of different cultivation conditions by using flat plate PBR and column PBR on S. quadricauda were studied in order to maximize cell biomass and lipid yield. In the flat plate PBR, the growth rate and cell biomass were enhanced by the increase of air injection rate (until 15 L/min), but not by the increase of nitrogen concentration. Higher lipid content but lower biomass nitrogen content were obtained by the decrease nitrogen concentration. In the column PBR, BG 11 medium resulted in higher growth rate, cell biomass and lipid content than Lcfebvre-Czarda medium. The growth rate and cell biomass were also enhanced by the increase of air injection rate (until 3 L/min), nitrogen concentration (until 0.5N-BG11), and CO2 concentration (until 3 vol% CO2).
