Description
Summary:Hyperbilirubinemia is a condition where the breakdown of red blood cells are at the utmost extreme. This normally occurs in infants, regardless of term and pre-term. The excessive build of up bilirubin from the breakdown of red blood cells in the infants body results in the yellowing of the skin, eyes and other tissues, thus resulting in jaundice. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of bilirubin concentration after exposure from a hyperbilirubinemia treatment device (HTD) which is fabricated utilizing 32 super bright blue LEDs. The current issue regarding the modern treatment is that there is no indicator to notify the nurses when the treatment is done or when the baby require attention if their body temperature fluctuates from the optimal range which is around 36°C. In order for this project to work, the HTD has first to be fabricated. The fabricated device has been tested with its efficiency by using a yellow food coloring as a substitute, which is then exposed under the blue LEDs. The outcome from this project will provide valuable information regarding bilirubin reduction after exposure from super bright blue LEDs, as well as the present of an indicator of said treatment device will hugely impact the treatment process of phototherapy.
