Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) Modeling For the Removal of Carbon Dioxide(CO2) From Natural Gas by using Absoprtion in Random Packing
In this modern world, though with the development of high technology, there is still insufficient existing methods to remove high concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) found naturally in natural gas. The reason why there is a need to remove CO2 is because to improve the fuel gas heating value and al...

The reason why there is a need to remove CO2 is because to improve the fuel gas heating value and also to combat the current issues of global warming / greenhouse effect where CO2 is inevitably vented into air when natural gas is burned. There are several existing methods for CO2 removal and presently, absorption is the most developed method to remove CO2. Computational Flow Modeling is a type of method use to tackle this problem and FLUENT is one of Computational Fluid Dynamic’s software. FLUENT will be widely used to simulate the flow of the CO2-rich natural gas and the solvent used for stripping purposes. This report will cover the introduction to this research, the literature review regarding removal of CO2 from natural gas using absorption method in random packing, the methodology for the project and finally the results and discussion. The simulation will then be repeated for different column heights and different gas velocities to see the effect of column height on absorption process. Finally, the grid sensitivity analysis will be done to determine the best nodes for mesh.
