Horning Procedure of Rice Husk and the Influence of Rice Husk Ash on Concrete

This report deals with the evaluation of the influence of burning procedure to the quality of rice husk ash. Rice hush ash (RHA) has a pozzolanic reactivity characteristic which can be used to partially replace the cement content. The rice husk ash used is obtained from controlled auto combustion...

Civil engineering (General) This report deals with the evaluation of the influence of burning procedure to the quality of rice husk ash. Rice hush ash (RHA) has a pozzolanic reactivity characteristic which can be used to partially replace the cement content. The rice husk ash used is obtained from controlled auto combustion of rice husk in a closed chamber with control burning temperature. The understanding on the effect of RHA on the rheology and workability of fresh concrete is important because RHA can impact the strength and durability of hardened concrete. The project focuses on identifying the effect of RHA on workability of the concrete and the optimum inclusion of RHA in concrete. Several types of burning RHA are done and tested to know the composition of silicon dioxide, Si02 contained in the RHA and its influence on the strength of concrete. This research work also evaluates how different contents of rice husk ash (RHA) added to concrete may influence its fresh concrete properties. Samples with dimensions of 15 x 15 x 15 em are tested, with 5%, 10% and 15% replacement of cement with RHA. The results show that in general, for similar w/c ratio (0.40), the replacement of 15% of the portland cement by the RHA affect significantly the compressive strength but has no significant effect on the workability. The results are compared to the control sample and the viability of adding RHA to concrete is verified.
