This article discusses the significance of ensuring food and water safety during the Hajj to prevent the spread of food and water-borne diseases. Experiences from the past have demonstrated the need for proactive surveillance, early detection, and expeditious control measures. Poor food hygiene, water shortages, asymptomatic pathogen carriers, and improper food storage contribute to disease risk. To mitigate these dangers, the Saudi Ministry of Health rigorously regulates the importation of fresh food and inspects properly sealed or canned food brought by the pilgrims. These precautions are designed to safeguard the health of pilgrims and prevent the introduction of contaminated food. By prioritizing public health surveillance and implementing preventive strategies, Saudi authorities aim to establish a safe environment and improve the health of the Hajj pilgrims.
