Summary: | In the subject of English for Specific Purposes, genre analysis has become a popular method for students to comprehend specific language use patterns in target contexts. Nowadays, there are many YouTube’s unboxing and haul videos that are made across the globe which sometimes can be similar to one another. Thus, this study seeks to investigate the rhetorical moves used by the Youtuber and also to examine the formulaic expressions that are common in YouTube’s unboxing and haul videos. This study is based on Swales (1990) reexamined CARS model. To achieve the objectives of this study, a qualitative approach was implemented. The data was collected from YouTube which was further transcribed and analyzed using content analysis, specifically move analysis. This study found that most of the selected videos performed similar moves and steps, and most of the speakers used similar expressions in their unboxing videos. It is anticipated that the findings of this study could contribute to future studies and help to inspire YouTubers to figure out new ways to create interesting content in the future. |
