Description
Summary:This flagship was established in May 2019 following a visit from IIUM flagship members from IIUM Gombak with the initial aim to conserve and restore the stream that flow through the IIUM Kuantan Campus. The members consist of academic non-academic staff from Kulliyyah of Medicine, Science, Dentistry, Allied Health Science and Pharmacy. Unlike other flagship in IIUM, this flagship is not based in the Kulliyyah, but in the Research Management Centre office. The objective is achieved through educational activities around the river which include plogging, hiking, tree planting and organizing program with school children known as the school in the park. Other than that, we also produce videos and organize webinar through social platform media. An infographic signboard with a map of the river was constructed near the road to the IIUM Masjid to create awareness of the beautiful river with the lake and waterfall that exist in the university. We also engaged with other university and government agency in Kuantan to discuss matters related to the river in Kuantan. We have meetings with the Engineering Department from UMP, JPS Pahang and Majlis Bandaraya Kuantan (MBK). From this engagement we were frequently invited to program such as plogging along the beaches and river in Kuantan. From the discussion with the MBK we see improvement in the development of the Tasik Taman Bandar which is located in front of IIUM Kuantan Campus. We also organize activities with societies like the Malaysia Nature Society and Pahang Hiking and Mountaineering Community. We have great support from our students especially the Ecoclub who are ever willing to take part in our activities. We are fortunate to be offered a consultation work with the Yayasan Pelajaran Pahang to improve their lake within their headquarters in Tanjung Lumpur. In the future we plan to continue to work with our collaborators and recruit new members to continue or improve the program that we have started.
