Tourism Melaka Homestay Homestay program is one of the rural tourism products that highlight the Malaysian culture and traditional ways of life. It has been introduced in 1988 and has been recognized as one of the economic engine that contributes to the local economy especially in the less developed areas. This descriptive study explores the motivation of local communities to interest involved in homestay program and the attitude among local community as well as the knowledge and skills about the homestay program that they have if they want to participate in the program. This study was conducted by using both primary and secondary resources. Sixty respondents from local communities in Kg. Parit Penghulu are participating in this study. Questionnaires were used in the study. The results of the study reveal that majority of the residents is influenced by factors of participating in homestay program by source of income (23.3%), followed by additional income (20%) and family encouragement (16.7%).
