Information Science The overall purpose of this study is to investigate and to make recommendations for the important of the loan collection acquired during 1998 to 2002 periods at the University of Malaya Library. The research was carried out using a total of 38,737 monographs records obtained from the UML computerised system. The analysis was divided into two sections; the time taken for cataloguing process and the transaction study of the monographic items. Cataloguing time was derived using 'when the item was received' entry and the 'date it was inventoried' entry. Transaction analysis was carried ·out according to the year of publications, languages and subject areas. The results showed that half of the items were catalogued during the first three months from the received dates. Transaction analysis showed that the circulation frequencies declined as the age of monograph increased. Majority, the highest items transactions were recorded for items in English and Malay languages. In comparison to the social science books, the science and technology books showed higher transaction frequency. Analysis on the no transaction items revealed that the majority of them were cost less than MYR100. Suggestions are made for the improvement in the selection of the library items, cataloguing processes, reviewing the loans period and the recall system for the on loans items, and also withdrawal for the unnecessary items. 2003-09 Thesis NonPeerReviewed application/pdf http://studentsrepo.um.edu.my/14743/1/Sutarmi_Kasimun.pdf Sutarmi , Kasimun (2003) Collection evaluation at the University of Malaya Library: Loan transactions studies / Sutarmi Kasimun.
