This study was conducted to found out the most suitable choice of antibiotic for aquaculture use among 15 types of commonly- used antibiotics (compound sulphonamides, lincomyc, fosfomycin, colistin, erythromycin, gentamicin, ampicilin, chloramphenicol, amoxycillin, sulphamethoxazole, flumequine, oleandomycin, spiramycin, tetracycline and novobiocin). The present study were one to determine the effectiveness of the antibiotics against Salmonella spp. culture from climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) by using enrichment and selective media and their identification by conducting different biochemical tests along with studies on their antibiotic sensitivity and resistance patterns. Isolation of bacteria isolates was carried out using Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA) and Xylose Lysine Deoxycholate (XLD). In the present study, antibiotic susceptibility test against Salmonella was tested using disk diffusion method. The MAR index (multiple antibiotic resistances) of the present isolates against the tested antibiotics were calculated according to the formula as follows (Krumperman (1985), Sarter et al., (2007). The results showed that antibiotic sensitivity and resistance cases were reported as 55% and 36%, respectively. Intermediary sensitivity case was recorded as 13%. The Salmonella spp. is 100 % sensitive to the tetracycline (TE) and chloramphenicol (C). The Salmonella spp. also sensitive to the other antibiotics such as compound sulphonamides, fosfomycin, erythromycin, gentamicin, sulphamethoxazole, flumequine, oleandomycin and spiramycine. Salmonella spp. was resistant to the ampicilin, lincomycin, amoxicillin, and novobiocin. Intermediary sensitivity was found towards colistin sulphate (60%), spiromycin (30%), lincomycin (10%), fosfomycin (10%), flumequin (10%) and oleandomycin (10%). In the present study, MAR index value is 0.36. From these results, it can be concluded that compound sulphonamides and flumequin and other four antibiotics (fosfomycin, erythromycin,gentamicin and oleandomycin) have great potential to against Salmonella spp. in the aquaculture hatchery since these antibiotics shows the high percentage of sensitive cases recorded in the present study. |
