Description
Summary:This study encompasses the area of planting materials production which can support the increasing demand for banana planting material through vegetative method. Based on this study, the objective was to explore the capability of crown sucker of Musa acuminate cv. Berangan in producing equivalent quality planting material was achieved. Result from the analysis conducted by using 1-way ANOVA and Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT), there were significant different between the growth development of every treatment and the section process. The parameters that were used in this study are the growth and development of pseudostem, leaf and root of banana. Based on the result collected, the uncut rhizomes of crown suckers recorded the fastest growth rate. The rhizomes of crown suckers that being cut into two parts also shown a growth but relatively slower than the uncut rhizomes. However, the cutting two rhizomes can produce double number of planting materials compared to the uncut one. Thus, eventhough it required more time to grow, it still can be accepted as a source of planting material. Furthermore, the result also shown that the cutting two rhizomes only take longer time to grow the first leave, the growth after the emergence of first leave was relatively constant. Hence, the farmer can use crown sucker which are cut into two sections to double up the production of banana planting materials which can support the customers demand.
