Preliminary study of Isolation Escherichia coli from the fermented cabbage, brassica oleracea against pathogenic bacteria
In this study, there were 20 Escherichia coli strains were isolated from fermented cabbage using Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) medium. Recently, there are many type of bacterial disease that can be found in aquaculture industry and many antibiotics are not effective to against the bacteria disease. The...

Recently, there are many type of bacterial disease that can be found in aquaculture industry and many antibiotics are not effective to against the bacteria disease. Therefore, it is a must to find an alternative resources to alternate the commercial antibiotic in overcoming disease problem in aquaculture. One of the solution is bacteriocin from bacteria which believed can be serve as antimicrobial agent. In the present study, three methods were used to determine the antimicrobial activity of bacteriocins, which were primary screening of antimicrobial activity of bacteriocin, freeze-drying method, and partial purification method. In this present work, it was found that out of 20 bacterial strains isolated from fermented cabbage, none of them were found to produce antimicrobial activity toward pathogenic bacteria strain from aquaculture species such as Escherichia coli, Shigella, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, and Aeromonas spp. Because this result may influence by growth phase of bacteriocin producing bacteria, composition of growth media, inoculum size and incubation condition. 2015 Undergraduate Final Project Report NonPeerReviewed Kerk, Wenn Hui (2015) Preliminary study of Isolation Escherichia coli from the fermented cabbage, brassica oleracea against pathogenic bacteria.
