Bioethanol Production from Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) Core and Fibre Wastes.

This present study describes the protocol standardisation for bioethanol production from kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) wastes. Kenaf or its scientific name is Hibiscus cannabinus is a warm-season annual fiber crop and as the most promising plant. The method used in the study was solid-state fermentati...

Vikneswaran Muthu This present study describes the protocol standardisation for bioethanol production from kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) wastes. Kenaf or its scientific name is Hibiscus cannabinus is a warm-season annual fiber crop and as the most promising plant. The method used in the study was solid-state fermentation process. This study was taken up to determine the role of some variables such as temperature, pH and fermentation time on bioethanol production from kenaf waste using Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This study mainly focused on the variables which were identified to be the optimum conditions resulting revealed that temperature 32°C, pH 5 and 96 hours of fermentation time which produced 1.214% ethanol from kenaf fibre waste and 0.515% ethanol from core waste. This study could establish the effective utilization of kenaf waste for bioethanol production with optimized fermentation conditions. 2015 Undergraduate Final Project Report NonPeerReviewed Vikneswaran Muthu (2015) Bioethanol Production from Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) Core and Fibre Wastes.
