The (4-(3-chloro-4- acetylphenylazo)phenoxy) alkane were orange in colour which indicated the presence of azo group. For characterization techniques of synthesized liquid crystal, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to investigate the mesomorphic properties and its is found that the (4-(3-chloro-4acetylphenylazo)phenoxy) hexane and (4-(3-chloro-4- acetylphenylazo)phenoxy) decane to have mesophase. The structural investigation was done by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) in KBr pellets and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) with CDCl₃ as a solvent.
