The development of embroidery machine with artificial intelligence is the main objective of this paper. The study focuses on intelligent positioning and speed control of servomotors. The use of artificial intelligent based speed controllers is motivated by motor-drive system parameter uncertainties and the unknown nonlinear mechanical load characteristics over the extended range of operating conditions. PID and Fuzzy Logic will be used to control the motor and generate the design from a software package. A personal computer with an interface card is used to control the embroidery machine. The interface card is specially designed for the embroidery machine based on PPI 8255 chips from Intel to send and receive parallel data from three input/output ports. In the interface card, there are channel selectors for selecting the line bus data input and output, three 16 bit up/down counters for feedback and three digital to analog converters for control of driver motor with analog signal. Two DC motors are used to drive the X-axis and Y-axis of an X-Y positioning table and one AC motor is used to control needle movement. In order to get more accurate position, optical encoders are used with the DC and AC motors as a feedback element. 2009-09-08T02:44:16Z 2009-09-08T02:44:16Z 2005-05-14 Working Paper p.77-88 http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/7159 en Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Artificial Life and Robotics Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia
