Summary: | This study investigates the internationalization efforts of local universities through a qualitative research approach by uncovering the initiatives undertaken, challenges faced, and solutions implemented. The study explores the strategies, challenges, and aspirations of key stakeholders as they strive to become internationally competitive. The qualitative study was conducted at a local private university in Jakarta, Indonesia. It utilized semistructured interviews with key stakeholders, with the criteria of participants holding leadership positions for at least one year to ensure that they were part of the key people in policy development, strategy, and implementation. The findings highlight the role of leadership at the university and faculty levels, and the importance of
developing international networks and partnerships. Leaders need to consider a balance between meeting the necessary demands and paying attention to the psychological impacts on employees to avoid detrimental effects. This study provides empirical evidence on how local universities are attempting to transform towards internationalization. The study presents the initiatives undertaken, challenges faced, and solutions implemented in internationalization efforts that are useful for university leaders, human resource
practitioners, and policymakers contributing to a sustainable future of “quality education.” |
