Above-ground sheltered termite test of wood treated with non-chlorinated termiticides and Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA)

Termite tests are designed to study on how chemical preservatives such as Copper Chromated Arsenate (CCA), Bifenthrin, Fipronil, Amine Copper Quat (ACQ) and Deltamethrin protects wood at different retentions and wood species. The timber species selected to perform this research included Perah (El...

The timber species selected to perform this research included Perah (Elateriospermum tapos ), Kedondong ( sp. of Buseraceae ), Kulim (Scorodocarpus borneensis), Tassie Oak (Eucalyptus sp.), Engkabang (Shorea macrophylla), rubberwood (Hevea brasilliensis), and Acacia mangium. The research is divided into 3 experiments, all the wood samples are treated using CCA under pressure treatment to a target retention of 5.6 kg/m" for the 1 experiment. The actual chemical retention for depth of penetration of 3mm, 5mm and 12mm is analysed. In the 2° experiment, the wood samples are pressure treated using CCA, Bifenthrin, Fipronil and ACQ at different retentions. Lastly, the rubberwood treated to different retention of Deltamethrin using two different methods from 0.0005% up to 0.004% (m/m). All of the wood samples in experiment 1 are rated with termite rating of 9 .5- 10 while percentage mass loss are generally of 1- 5%. As for experiment 2, the termite rating ranges from 7-9.5. For experiment 3, the percentage mass loss ranged from 11 %- 17% with termite rating from 8-10.
