Description
Summary:Sago palm, Metroxylon sagu (F: Palmae) small holdings approaches in Mukah Division can be divided into established and new sago farms. The Red Striped Weevil (RSW), Rhynchophorus schach is considered as the main pest of sago palm. Sago half cut trap was used to sample the RSW which shows that the relative abundance of RSW between two stages of sago farms was significantly different. Sampling of adult weevils in two selected farms in Mukah Division for 28 days also found that the beetle be able to travel from farm to farm in the distance of approximately 1 km. Results from mark recapture method indicated that high population of RSW in established farm (13,270) compare to newly established farm (8,151). A total of 81 out of 833 individuals were recaptured and the ratio female to male was 3: 2.
