Description
Summary:Systematic study on Sundamys muelleri was conducted primarily due to lack of information on their distribution and genetic structure. The Müllers'Giant Rat, S. muellerri is known to migrated and dispersed widely during Pleistocene of Sunda Shelf throughout Southeast Asia including Borneo. 30 samples were collected from Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah. Cytochrome ahjý 10 } AWn4ruh e. r9WR l POTp tial ? Oý , i eý er1' sib M@hhP o the COI as conserved gene. Data from external body measurement and skulls measurement of 20 samples were used for morphology study and analysed by using (UPGMA) method to determine the similarities between the species under study. The tree construct showed that there are clear grouping between Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak. Thus conclude mtDNA COI gene able to resolve moderate level of intraspecific variation species of S. muelleri between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
