Description
Summary:The study aimed to investigate the influence of screen time on reading habits of children. Then, to observe the screen time and determine the reading habits of Malaysian children. The belief of parents on the effect of screen time on reading habits of Malaysian children also explored in this study. 100 Malaysian parents or guardians living in Sibu, Sarawak, who have children between 4 and 12 years of age, participated in this research. The questionnaire was distributed to the respondents via WhatsApp and WeChat. The findings of the study are analysed using SPSS. Malaysian children mainly spent for 1 to 2 hours per day in front of screen and spent for 30 minutes or less on reading. Most parents or guardians believe that excessive screen time affects children's reading habits. Spearman correlation showed that there are significant different between the relationship of screen time and reading habits of children. This study can raise Malaysian parents or guardian awareness of the effect of screen time on reading habits of children.
