Summary: | Melons, Cucumis melo L., belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae. They are popular for their sweet, juicy fruit flesh with pleasant aroma. These melons are packed with numerous essential nutrients for the human body. In this study, the fruit quality properties, growth, and yield of nine different melon varieties were compared via a fertigation approach to deduce the best melon variety to be planted by melon farmers. Quantitative and qualitative traits of all nine melon varieties were collected and compared. As a result, it was discovered that the Japanese Rock Melon F1 Hybrid is an all-rounder best melon variety, with the highest seed germination percentage and fruiting percentage. On the other hand, the Sweet Green Melon F1 can also be considered the second-best choice, but the only downside is that the germination rate is significantly lower compared to others, at merely 37%. Hopefully, this study can serve as a foundation for developing a more comprehensive database for melon varieties to aid melon farmers in decision-making and further improve the industry’s yield. |
