This inaugural paper aims to highlight emerging concepts and realities about gender and careers. The paper first theorizes gender and career, presents some data on demography and employment and career positions by gender in selected organizations. The paper then highlights the implications of the gendered nature of careers for individuals and organizations; and finally draws conclusions and identifies challenges for organizational policy development.
