Ca-Cleanse: Herbal Mouthwash for Oral Cancer Prevention

Majority mouthwash products which are popular in our Islamic community are not free from alcohol. There are two main issues with this kind of mouthwash (not free from alcohol), that is regarding the usage of alcohol for Islamic consumer and scientifically, it also having very strong correlation for developing oral cancer. Consequently, to make it worse, our community still using it widely without any concerns on that both issues. Therefore, we have work together with QHERB Trading to produce a novel herb mouthwash product from our local Malaysian plant (root water extract) which is not only showing potentiality to kill oral-microbes but interestingly, also can act as chemopreventive agent that prevent the oral cancer carcinogenesis. The extract has low-level of antioxidants and inhibit the growth of the osteosarcoma cells and tongue carcinoma cells which also exert apoptosis features like spike features in time and dose-dependent manner. It induced the apoptosis level and increases the DNA arrest level especially at GOIG1 and G21M phase. From the western Mot analysis, it is dear that the extract suppressed the p42-ERK '/r and activated the Caspases 3 proteins which is the key role in apoptosis signaling pathway. CA-Cleanse also are non-toxic for the liver, kidney and skin fibroblast cells and very less or not detectable of heavy metals compounds. Therefore, our CA-Cleanse product has a good potentiality to be commercialized as a new mouthwash product that can prevent the oral cancer disease.
