Penanda mitokondria dan mikrosatelit telah digunakan untuk mengkaji variasi genetik dan hubungan filogenetik di kalangan populasi ikan keli, Clarias macrocephalus dari Semenanjung Malaysia dan dua rantau lembangan sungai Mekong iaitu Kemboja dan Vietnam.
